General description

Potassium chloride (KCl) is useful in studies of ion transport and potassium channels. KCl is known to be used in the crystallization of histone core octamers.

Application

Potassium chloride has been used:
  • as a component of Danieau medium and also used in the preparation of phosphate buffer saline
  • in the preparation of electrolyte solution for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry measurements
  • as a component of HEPES (4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazineethanesulfonic acid)-buffered Tyrode′s solution

May be used for the preparation of phosphate buffered saline, and for the extraction and solubilization of proteins.

In Situ Hybridization of Whole-Mount Mouse Embryos with RNA Probes: Hybridization, Washes, and Histochemistry. This is a protocol describing how to perform in situ hybridization on whole mouse embryos. Here we describe the hybridization procedure, and the localization of the DIG-labeled RNA using a conjugate of anti-DIG Fab antibody and calf intestinal alkaline phosphatase. Enzyme activity of the reporter is detected by a color reaction, resulting in the formation of a water-insoluble purple/blue precipitate. Manipulating the Mouse Embryo - Third Edition
