Biochem/physiol Actions

β-Casomorphin Fragment 1-5 (BCM5), an opioid receptor agonist, is a member of the β-casomorphin peptide family derived from β-casein. β-casomorphins are used to study their differential effects on processes such as hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, opioid signalling and immunosuppression.

We report the complete assignment of the 1H-nmr spectrum of beta-casomorphin-5 in DMSO-d6 solution. With a combination of one-dimensional, double quantum filtered correlated spectroscopy, homonuclear Hartmann-Hahn, and rotating frame nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectroscopy (ROESY) spectra, we were able to differentiate

Beta-casomorphins, opioid peptides present in mother's milk, are a good substrate for DPPIV (EC 3.4.14.5) which is a major factor limiting the half-life of biologically active peptides. Serum DPPIV activity of two groups of infants (healthy and atopic dermatitis) and

Healthy young volunteers ingested one liter of cows' milk; then the contents of the small intestine were aspirated through an intestinal tube at various times and assayed for the presence of bovine beta-casomorphin immunoreactive materials. Considerable amounts of beta-casomorphin-7, but

The present study was aimed to investigate the possible effects of beta-casomorphin-7, against hyperglycemia and free radical-mediated oxidative stress in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats by assaying the blood glucose level and the activity of plasma enzymatic antioxidants, such as superoxide dismutase

Milk is the source of beta-casomorphins--biologically active peptides with opioid activity--which are suspected to play various roles in the human body. The local influence of exogenous opioid peptides on gastrointestinal functions has been widely reported. After passing the gut barrier
