General description

The Fibroblast Growth Factors (FGFs) are heparin binding glycoproteins that exert a variety of biological activities toward cells of mesenchymal, neuronal, and epithelial origin. FGF10 belongs to the subgroup of FGFs that also includes FGF3, 7, and 22. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF-10 is most related to KGF/FGF-7 and is expressed during the development and preferentially in adult lungs. It signals through the FGFR 2b. Recombinant human FGF-10 is a 19.3 kDa protein consisting of 170 amino acid residues.

Quality

Bioactivity assay #1: The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BaF3 cells expressing FGF− receptors is = 0.5 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of = 2 × 106 units/mg.
Bioactivity assay #2: Determined by a cell proliferation assay using 4MBr-5 cells. The expected−ED50−for this effect is 0.5−15.0 ng/ml.
