General description

Goldis a highly valued metal in catalysis and material science due to its uniqueproperties such as high chemical stability, excellent electrical and thermalconductivity, malleability, and ductility. In catalysis, gold nanoparticles areparticularly effective as catalysts for various chemical reactions, includingoxidation and hydrogenation processes due to their high surface area andexcellent catalytic activity. In material science, gold is often employed inthe fabrication of electronic components, sensors, and biomedical devices dueto its excellent conductivity, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility.

Application

  • Design and performance analysis of a highly sensitive photonic crystal fiber based plasmonic sensor: This study highlights the development of a gold-based plasmonic sensor for applications in material science, particularly for environmental monitoring (Walid et al., 2024).
  • A theoretical study of the electronic structures of metal-semiconductor-metal junction and their electrical properties: Discusses the electronic properties of gold in semiconductor devices, valuable for academic research in material sciences (Almehanyah, 2024).
  • Highly stable and efficient gold nanoparticles films facilitated by thiourea for catalytic reduction of nitrophenol in water: Investigates gold nanoparticles for environmental remediation, an application of interest in material science for its efficiency in catalytic processes (Xia et al., 2024).
