Biochem/physiol Actions

Koumine is a major indole alkaloid isolated from poisonous plant Gelsemium elegans that exhibits anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects in inflammatory and neuropathic pain models. It appears that koumine ameliorate chronic constriction injury induced neurotic pain through induction of autophagy and the inhibition apoptosis in the spinal cord of rodents. Koumine protects IPEC-J2 cells from hydrogen peroxide induced oxidative stress and apoptosis through decreasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.
