General description

Prednisolone prevents protease activity in vitro. It stimulates myogenesis and inhibits apoptosis. Prednisolone is used to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), gout arthritis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations.

Application

Prednisolone has been used for the Δ1-dehydrogenation of hydrocortisone by gel entrapped arthrobacter simplex cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Prednisolone is a glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive activity.
