General description
The medium is supplemented with peptones from casein and soymeal to provide an enhanced carbon source, which promotes the growth of the microbes present in the test sample.
The neutralizing additives, Polysorbate (Tween®) 80, cysteine, histidine, and lecithin reverse the growth inhibitory effect of most disinfectants and antiseptics. Neutralizing efficiency of histidine is effective against formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasing agents.
Cysteine is a reducing agent and neutralizes oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide and iodine. Lecithin and Polysorbate 80 together are effective against quaternary ammonium compounds, amphoteric surfactants, benzamidines, chlorhexidines and dequadin. Additionally, Polysorbate 80 inactivates benzyl alcohol, carbanilides, dichlorbenzyl alcohols, benzoic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid and its esters, phenols, phenylethyl alcohols and Solbrols (PHB esters).
