General description

The Cyanide test measures cyanide ions e.g. in drinking water, mineral water, wastewater, groundwater and surface water. The test kit contains the colour comparator for the visual measurement.
The MQuant® Cyanide test (formally MColortest®) measures free cyanide ions e.g. in
  • Groundwater and surface water
  • Drinking water and mineral water
  • Waters from aquaculture
  • Electroplating baths and bath solutions, electroplating wastewater
  • Industrial water
  • Wastewater and percolating water
This test is not suited for seawater.

Method
Cyanide ions react with a chlorinating agent to form cyanogen chloride, which in turn reacts with 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid in the presence of pyridine to form a violet dye (König reaction). The cyanide concentration is measured semiquantitatively by visual comparison of the color of the measurement solution with the color fields of a color disk. The test evaluates the color reaction based on the transmitted light method. So even turbid and colored water samples can be analyzed without further preparation.
The color disk is made of very durable, lightfast plastic, thus suitable for industrial areas and wet environments.
Using the refill pack 1.18457 containing all the reagents, the original test kit can be used for a very long time, making it a particularly economical and ecological system.
