Monoamine oxidase A (MAOA) catalyzes the degradation of biogenic amines such as dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin. Increased activation of MAOA is linked to human heart failure (HF). Thus, the protein may be a potential target for the treatment of HF. Mutation in the gene leads to panic disorder (PD).
