APOL1 is a major apoprotein of HDL and play a pivotal role in host defence and cellular homeostatic mechanism. Change in APOL1 function can lead to African sleeping sickness, lipid disorder, schizophrenia, atherosclerosis, cancer and chronic kidney disease.
