Ataxin-1 (ATXN1) participates in transcriptional regulation and repression of gene transcription. It associates with the transcriptional corepressor SMRT (Silencing mediator of retinoid and thyroid hormone receptors) and forms complexes with histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3).
