The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. NES (Nestin) is a class VI intermediate filament expressed in the stem cells of the neural tube. It identifies multipotential neural precursor cells in humans. Thus, it proves its ability to identify tumorous cells and human neurodegenerative diseases. It is highly involved in the neuronal enhancer activities and embryonic development.
