General description

Resorcinol, a dihydric phenol, is a key component of hair dyeing products. Studies in B16-F10 melanoma cells have revealed that it minimizes melanin production, making it a potential hypopigmenting agent. It serves as a cross-linking agent to produce resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, adhesives, rubbers, and composite materials.

Application

Resorcinol may be used as a starting material in the preparation of organic compounds such as resacetophenone, 4-methyl-7-hydroxycoumarin, β-resorcylic acid and 2-methyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione.
