General description

Increasing evidence suggests that a small population of tumor initiating cells (TIC) or cancer stem cells (CSC) are responsible for tumorigenesis and resistance to conventional anti-cancer therapies. Heme oxygenase 2 (HMOX2) has recently been identified as a novel biomarker for tumor initiating cells. BioTracker TiNIR HMOX2 Live Cell Dye is a near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe for the detection and isolation of HMOX2 expressing tumor initiating cells. At low concentrations or a single injection of high concentration, TiNIR (tumor initiating cell probe with near infrared) is useful for the isolation of TIC in vitro and in vivo visualization in tumor model animals, respectively. At high concentrations or repeated treatments, TiNIR has been shown to inhibit the function of HMOX2 and induce tumor cell death by accumulating ROS in cancer cells .

Tumor initiating cells (TIC) are resistant to conventional anticancer therapy and associated with metastasis and relapse in cancer. Although various TIC markers and their antibodies have been proposed, it is limited to the use of antibodies for in vivo imaging
