General description

ReadyPlate agar plates are stackable, specially designed plates that help increase safety during handling, transport, and incubation. ReadyPlate agar plates are of standard 90mm diameter. PEMBA is a highly specific, selective medium for the isolation and enumeration of B. cereus from foods. Polymyxin and a critical concentration of nutrients make this media selective. It supports the growth of even a small number of B. cereus cells and spores from foods having a high microbial load. The low peptone content in the medium promotes sporulation and sodium pyruvate reduces the colony size of the organisms. Egg yolk emulsion demonstrates the strong lecithinase opacity reaction. Bromothymol blue acts as a pH indicator to detect mannitol fermentation. The addition of polymyxin B sulfate makes the medium selective for the isolation of B. cereus. Cycloheximide inhibits the growth of molds.
