Troubleshooting

Question         Proposed Solution(s)
During installation, my printer did not re-start when I ran through my set up process.
  • Ensure that you are using Zebra Setup Utilities
  • Ensure that your printer is powered on
  • Ensure that you have connected the USB cable and computer, even if you are setting up wirelessly.
  • During printer installation, make sure that you have selected the right type of printer and the correct USB port.
I tried printing and the text is light, spotty, or incomplete.
Reset the printer settings. Plug in the Flash Drive included with the system and navigate to the folder using file explorer. Double click on the printer settings. Reset the printer. Retry printing.
I tried printing but the text came out misaligned.
Reset the printer settings. Plug in the Flash Drive included with the system and navigate to the folder using file explorer. Double click on the printer settings. Reset the printer. Retry printing.

  • Reset the printer settings. Plug in the Flash Drive included with the system and navigate to the folder using file explorer. Double click on the printer settings. Reset the printer. Retry printing.
I tried printing labels, but the label roller won’t move and is not even producing blank labels.
  • Verify that the printer is plugged in and powered on and is not in a “sleep” mode.
  • Verify that the ribbon has been installed correctly. If the ribbon has an imprint of your printed text in it, then the ribbon is functioning correctly
  • Verify the labels are installed correctly.
  • Verify that you used Zebra Setup Utilities to set your printer up.
  • Check for error messages on the hardware. Refer to Zebra Printer User Guide for help with error messages.
  • Does the printer need to be cleaned? Try cleaning print head, roller, media path or interior according to the printer User Guide.
When setting up my wireless printer, it keeps asking for a password but I’m using an open network.
Since you are using an open network, there are less security options. While setting up in Zebra Setup Utilities, under security, click “none”. Then in the next screen select “hex” and do not enter any passwords.
If the problem persists and the printer will not print, contact your IT administrator.
After I closed my printer, it rejected a large number of labels and then concluded with MEDIA OUT error message. How do I fix this?
  • Verify that your ribbon was installed correctly.
  • Verify that your labels were installed correctly.
  • Go to home → Settings → media type and ensure that “mark” is selected
  • Go to home → Sensors and check to ensure that “reflective” sensors are selected.
  • If the problem persists, reset the printer settings.
Plug in the flash drive included with the system and navigate to the folder using file explorer. Double click on the printer settings. Reset the printer. Retry printing.
Why does the printer reject three or four labels every time I turn the printer on, press the pause/un-pause button or open the printer head?
The printer is using self-calibration mode. If you wish to remove this functionality, you may go to the printer hardware, from the main menu, click TOOLS → Power up action and set it to “no motion”. Then, under TOOLS → Head close action, set it to “no motion”. Just make sure that when you select this, you press the “feed button” (center, next to the pause button) once or twice to correctly align your labels before printing after opening the printer head.
I can’t find Zebra Setup Utilities or can’t install the Zebra Setup Utilities program on my Mac device.
There is no Zebra Setup Utilities program designed for Mac. Refer to our video or the User Guide for how to connect your Mac device to the printer and MilliSentials Lab Labeling System Software
Does the printer always have to be connected to a laptop in the lab?
No. Refer to wireless connection instructions in the full user guide or how-to video. You may also use your mobile device to print labels.
I went through the steps to setup the printer on the ethernet or WIFI network, but the printer icon is still red.
  • Revisit video sections 5 and 6.
  • Common errors:
    • Incorrect network password was entered. -Verify password.
    • No IP address on printer
    • Wrong IP address entered into MilliSentials Lab Labeling System Software settings menu
