Gene Information

human ... UCHL1(7345)

General description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the peptidase C12 family. This enzyme is a thiol protease that hydrolyzes a peptide bond at the C-terminal glycine of ubiquitin. This gene is specifically expressed in the neurons and in cells of the diffuse neuroendocrine system. Mutations in this gene may be associated with Parkinson disease
Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCHL1) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 4p14. The encoded protein is a deubiquitinase, which is part of the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS). UCHL1 is specifically expressed in the nervous system and gonads.

Immunogen

UCHL1 (AAH00332, 1 a.a. ~ 223 a.a) full-length recombinant protein with GST tag. MW of the GST tag alone is 26 KDa.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCHL1) catalyzes the hydrolysis of carboxy-terminal ubiquitin esters and amides. It plays an essential role in epithelial-mesenchymal transition. In addition, UCHL1 is also implicated in the cell invasion and in the cell cycle regulation. UCHL1 gene acts as an oncogene in various types of cancers including glioma, gastric cardiac adenocarcinoma (GCA) and colorectal cancer. It also acts as a susceptibility gene for Parkinson′s disease.
