Gene Information

human ... TRDMT1(1787)

General description

This gene encodes a protein responsible for the methylation of aspartic acid transfer RNA. While similar in sequence and structure to DNA cytosine methyltransferases, this gene is distinct and highly conserved in its function among taxa. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. (provided by RefSeq)

Immunogen

DNMT2 (AAH47733, 1 a.a. ~ 391 a.a) full-length recombinant protein with GST tag. MW of the GST tag alone is 26 KDa.

Biochem/physiol Actions

DNA methyltransferase 2 (DNMT2) might be involved in de novo methylation of newly integrated retroviral DNA in mammalian DNA. DNMT2 functions as a tRNA methyltransferase in lower eukaryotes. DNMT2 plays an essential role in zebrafish development by enhancing cytoplasmic RNA methylation. DNMT2 promotes DNA methylation in Drosophila.

Cytosine-5 methyltransferases of the Dnmt2 family function as DNA and tRNA methyltransferases. Insight into the role and biological significance of Dnmt2 is greatly hampered by a lack of knowledge about its protein interactions. In this report, we address the subject

DNMT2 is a human protein that displays strong sequence similarities to DNA (cytosine-5)-methyltransferases (m(5)C MTases) of both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. DNMT2 contains all 10 sequence motifs that are conserved among m(5)C MTases, including the consensus S:-adenosyl-L-methionine-binding motifs and the active
