Application

BIX has been used in cell viability assay.

Biochem/physiol Actions

BIX (BiP protein inducer X) induces the expression of the endoplasmic reticulum chaperone protein GRP78 (glucose regulated protein 78, BiP) leading to an attenuation of the unfolded protein response. BIX protects neuronal cells and retinal cells from ER-stress induced cell death.

Several intervention studies have demonstrated that exercise training has beneficial effects among cancer patients. However, older cancer patients are underrepresented in clinical trials, and only few exercise-based studies have focused specifically on older patients with cancer. In particular, research investigating the

Human bronchial epithelial cells play a key role in airway immune homeostasis. We hypothesized that these sentinel cells can remember a previous contact with pathogen compounds and respond nonspecifically to reinfection, a phenomenon called innate immune memory. We demonstrated that

Macrophage activation is a critical step in host responses during bacterial infections. Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), the rate-limiting enzyme in polyamine metabolism, has been well studied in epithelial cells and is known to have essential roles in many different cellular functions.
