Gene Information

human ... EIF2AK2(5610)

General description

EIF2AK2 (eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α kinase 2) is an intracellular protein, that is also called as RNA-dependent protein kinase (PKR). It belongs to the eIF2αfamily of protein kinases. PKR contains two RNA binding domains and a kinase domain. This gene is located on human chromosome 2p22-p21.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human PKR around the phosphorylation site of Thr446.

Immunogen Range: 413-462

Biochem/physiol Actions

EIF2AK2 (eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 α kinase 2) plays a key role in antiviral response promoted by interferons. This gene is involved in stress responses and inflammation pathways. This gene controls the development and multiplication of cells, nutrient signaling and metabolism. EIF2AK2 also participates in several cell regulatory pathways like antiviral activity, growth suppression, transcriptional regulation and apoptosis.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant RNA modification, but little is known about its role in mammalian hematopoietic development. Here, we show that conditional deletion of the m6A writer METTL3 in murine fetal liver resulted in hematopoietic failure and perinatal
