Gene Information

human ... CAMK2A(815)

General description

Anti-CAMK2 Antibody detects endogenous levels of total CAMK2 protein.
Calcium/calmodulin dependent protein kinase II α (CAMK2) is a calcium-activated serine/threonine kinase. The gene is located on human chromosome 5q32. CAMK2 is mainly expressed in the central nervous system. It consists of a kinase domain, a regulatory domain and an association domain.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human CaMK2 alpha/delta.

Immunogen Range: 256-305

Biochem/physiol Actions

Calcium/calmodulin dependent protein kinase II α (CAMK2) is essential for long-term potentiation (LTP) and spatial memory. It regulates synaptic plasticity. Dysfunction in this gene is associated with schizophrenia, epilepsy and autism spectrum disorders.
Calmodulin dependent protein kinase II complex δ (CAMK2D) modulates the functions of ion channels and Ca2+ handling proteins. It also regulates the phosphorylation and acetylation of histones. It has been shown to be overexpressed in the myocardium of diabetic patients.
