Application

(−)-Scopolamine methyl bromide was administered to rats to inhibit the peripheral cholinergic effects induced by pilocarpine.10,11

Biochem/physiol Actions

Competitive muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist.
Scopolamine is an anti-muscarinic and cholinolytic alkaloid that inhibits parasympathetic-cholinergic system.7 The central effects include hallucinations, disorientation, restlessness and euphoria.8 Scopolamine disturb the stimulus detection performance in rats by interfering with the reticular cholinergic pathways.9

Caution

Shelf-life of the powder is at least five years when stored at room temperature.
