General description

The interferon α 2 (IFN-α2) exists in three forms 2a, 2b and 2c. It consists of 165 amino acids and five α helices. IFN-α2B is found structurally stable at pH 7. The recombinant IFN-α is nonglycosylated compared to the natural human IFN-α.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Interferon α 2B (IFN-α 2B) belongs to the type I interferon protein family. It is produced by many cell types in response to viral infection. IFN-α 2B has antiproliferative and antitumor activities, as well as induction of apoptosis and the inflammatory response. It enhances the expression of MHC proteins by increasing the presentation of antigen peptides and activates cytotoxic T-cells.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution of 1x PBS.

Preparation Note

HumanKine IFN-α 2B is a glycosylated monomer expressed in HEK 293 cells with an apparent molecular mass of 16 kDa. Production in human 293 cells offers authentic glycosylation. Glycosylation contributes to stability in cell growth media and other applications.

Analysis Note

The specific activity was determined by the dose-dependent proliferation of WISH (heteroploid human amnion cell line) in presence of VSV ( vesicular stomatitis virus).
