General description

Histones are highly basic chromatin proteins. They tightly pack and organize eukaryotic DNA into nucleosomes. Nucleosomes consist of a histone octamer made of a tetramer of histones H3 and H4 with two dimers of histones H2A and H2B, wherein the 147 DNA base pairs are wrapped around this histone complex.

Application

Histone H4 human has been used in far-western blot analysis for protein identification. It has also been used in the preparation of standard protein solution for protein digestion.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Histones regulate transcription, DNA replication, DNA repair, and recombination.
