General description

L-glutamine is an essential amino acid that is a crucial component of culture media that serves as a major energy source for cells in culture. L-glutamine is very stable as a dry powder and as a frozen solution. In liquid media or stock solutions, however, L-glutamine degrades relatively rapidly. Optimal cell performance usually requires supplementation of the media with L-glutamine prior to use.

Application

The L-Glutamine solution has been used as a supplement in Roswell Park Memorial Institute (RPMI)-1640 medium to culture human leukemia monocytic cell line for intracellular assay and splenocytes for in vitro activation of CD4+ T cells. It has also been used as a supplement to the hybridoma medium used for primary screening for antigen binding and hybridoma cloning.

Preparation Note

Prepared in cell culture grade water.
