Application

Sodium dodecyl sulfate has been used in western blot lysis buffer and also to prepare SDS-loading dye.
Anionic detergent

Biochem/physiol Actions

Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/lauryl sulfate, an ionic detergent has the ability to distract biological membranes. It can block RNase and deoxyribonuclease (DNase) activity. SDS is one of the main constituents of several reagents, that are used to purify nucleic acids. It is also considered as a permeability enhancer in oral formulations.
