General description

CHAPS is a non-denaturing, zwitterionic sulfobetaine detergent. It is mild and solubilizes membrane proteins and receptors. It is useful for breaking protein-protein interactions. It is a derivative of the naturally occurring bile salts. It has small micellar molecular weight (6,150) and high critical micellar concentration (6 - 10 mM) allowing it to be removed from samples by dialysis.

Application

  • 10mM CHAPS detergent has been used in the process of ion-exchange chromatography for improved purification.
  • 0.5 w/v of CHAPS is a component of high salt buffer in protein purification alongside HEPES, NaCl and EDTA.
  • HEPES buffer has been used as lysis buffer in immunoprecipitation, supplemented with 1% CHAPS.

Tetraspanins are cell membrane-scaffolding proteins interacting with one another and a repertoire of interaction partners. Through these interactions, they form extended molecular networks as tetraspanin webs or tetraspanin-enriched microdomains. Microscopic data suggest that these networks contain tetraspanin clusters, with poor

Animals use their odorant receptors to receive chemical information from the environment. Insect odorant receptors differ from the G protein-coupled odorant receptors in vertebrates and nematodes, and very little is known about their protein-protein interactions. Here, we introduce a mass
