General description

2-Methyl-2-butanol, an isomer of n-pentanol, is an organic solvent used mostly in esterification reactions.

Application

2-Methyl-2-butanol has been used in evaluating esterification rate of natural antioxidants like cinnamic acid and ascorbic acid using HPLC.
2-Methyl-2-butanol may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in cherimoya (Annona cherimolia, Mill.) and multivitamin syrup by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and micellar liquid chromatography (LC) techniques, respectively.
