General description

The BioTracker Mitochondria Live Cell Probe demonstrates excellent intracellular retention, enabling long-term staining of mitochondria for up to five days. This easy-to-use live cell probe:*demonstrates high intracellular retention*enables long-term visualization of mitochondria*is provided as ready-to-use DMSO solution*can be used with collagen-coated plates

Features and Benefits

The SCT272 live cell probe is designed to exhibit mitochondrial retention to enable long-term visualization of mitochondria.

Target description

The mitochondrion is a multifunctional organelle involved in energy production for the cell plus additional cellular functions. The active cycle of mitochondrial fusion and division induces morphological changes, called mitochondrial dynamics. Abnormalities in morphological dynamics are associated with neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic disorders, and other disorders. The demand for tools enabling long-term observation of mitochondrial dynamics has therefore increased. Methods for monitoring mitochondrial dynamics are usually based on small fluorescent molecules or plasmid transfection techniques. The use of plasmids requires the target protein to be stably expressed, while small fluorescent molecules are widely used because they can simply be added to cells. Among commercially available small fluorescent molecules, those containing the chloromethyl moiety are common. However, these dyes have limitations, including short-term retention in cells, decreased fluorescence intensity in serum, and high background. The BioTracker Red Mitochondria Live Cell Probe overcomes these limitations. This probe is designed to exhibit mitochondrial fluorescence retention for long-term visualization. In addition, SCT272 shows stronger fluorescent signal compared with other commercially available dyes that contain the chloromethyl moiety.

Storage and Stability

Store BioTracker Red Mitochondria Live Cell Probe at -20 °C, protected from light.

Other Notes

SCT272 is provided as a ready-to-use DMSO solution. A working solution can easily be prepared in a single dilution step with growth medium or HBSS.
