Gene Information

General description

The protein Annexin A6 or alternatively known as 67 kDa calelectrin, Annexin VI, Annexin-6, Calphobindin-II (CPB-II), Chromobindin-20, Lipocortin VI, Protein III, p68, or p70 and encoded by the human gene named ANXA6 or ANX6. Annexin VI is part of a large family of Annexin proteins and shares with the family the ability to bind negatively charged phospholipids in a calcium dependent manner. Localized in the plasma membrane annexins are important in many cellular functions as the provide scaffolds and play roles in vesicle transport, exocytosis, endocytosis and calcium transport and conduction. Recent research indicates that Annexin VI can interact with PKCalpha and EGFR in A431 cells to help regulate the phosphorylation of pY-EGFR and the associated activation of downstream signaling events associated with cancer. Annexin VI in normal tissue is expressed most strongly in myocardial tissue where it associates with sarcomeric α-actinin and is part of the sarcomere structure. Annexin VI also regulates terminal chondrocyte differentiation by modulating key signaling pathway activities.

Immunogen

GST-tagged recombinant protein corresponding to human Annexin VI.
