General description

Phenol, also known as hydroxybenzene, is a significant benzene derivative in commercial applications. It serves as a fundamental feedstock to produce polycarbonates, epoxy resins, molding compounds, and phenolic resins. Moreover, phenol finds extensive use in the manufacturing of aniline, caprolactam, and various other chemical derivatives.

Application

Phenol (90% solution in water) is used as a solvent to synthesis low molecular weight phenol-formaldehyde resins.
