General description

2-Propanethiol, also known as isopropyl mercaptan, is an organosulfur compound. The presence of the thiol group imparts significant nucleophilicity to the molecule, enabling it to participate in a variety of chemical reactions, including nucleophilic substitution. It serves as a precursor for synthesis of sulfur-containing compounds including thiol derivatives, thioethers, and disulfides. Additionally, it functions as a chain transfer agent in radical polymerization in the synthesis of polymers.
