General description
Method
In weakly phosphoric solution chromium(VI) ions react with diphenylcarbazide to form chromium(III) and diphenylcarbazone, which form a red-violet complex. The chromate concentration is measured semiquantitatively by visual comparison of the color of the measurement solution with the color fields of a color disk. The test evaluates the color reaction based on the transmitted light method. So even turbid and colored water samples can be analyzed without further preparation.
The color disk is made of very durable, lightfast plastic, thus suitable for industrial areas and wet environments.
Application
- Environmental Monitoring: Chromate tests are essential for monitoring chromium(VI) levels in water and soil. These tests help in assessing environmental pollution caused by industrial discharge and are crucial for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Recent research has focused on the simultaneous extraction of phosphate and chromate using nano mixed (Al-Fe-Zr) oxide adsorbents, demonstrating enhanced sensitivity and accuracy in detecting chromate contamination in water (Pala et al., International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 2021).
