General description

Copper(II) oxide (CuO) is a transition metal oxide and a p-type semiconductor commonly used as thermal conducting material, catalyst, gas sensor, magnetic storage media and varistors. It has a narrow bandgap of 1.2 eV and is used for optoelectronics, semiconductor and solar cell applications.

Application

Copper(II) oxide can be used as:
  • A dielectric material applicable in the microelectronic industry.
  • A hydrogen sulfide gas sensing material in biogas plants and natural gas facilities.
  • An induced-multiferroic material having a high TC temperature applicable in the manufacturing of superconductors.
