General description

A member of the type I interferon family of glycoprotein second messengers, human Interferon Beta (IFN-ß1) has been associated with antiviral activity as a secreted factor from infected cells that mediates innate immunity in neighboring cells. In addition, IFN-β1 has also been utilized as treatment for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) due to its ability to ameliorate inflammation in the central nervous system in this disease.

The SMC® Human IFN-β1 High Sensitivity Immunoassay Kit contains all reagents required to perform the assay. This assay takes advantage of a standard immunoassay workflow configured in a standard plate format.
Assay protocols are similar to existing sandwich ELISA methods with two key differences:
1) Elution buffer disrupts the sandwich, separating the labeled detection antibody for quantification.
2) The Erenna and SMCxPRO® immunoassay systems detect analytes using Single Molecule Counting (SMC®) technology.

Specificity

Cross Reactivity:
Cross-reactivity to the following analytes were tested with the following results:
  • human IFN-α2 – 0.2%
  • human IFN-γ – 0.3%
  • human IL-29 (IFN-λ1) – 0.2%
  • human IL-28A (IFN-λ2) – 0.2%
  • human IL-28B (IFN-λ3) – 0.3%
  • human IFN-ω – 0.2%

Accuracy:
  • Minimum of 5 serum samples spiked with average recovery of 88% with a range of 78-100%
  • Minimum of 5 plasma samples spiked with average recovery of 93% with a range of 75-113%
