General description

Arachidonic acid (ARA) is a polyunsaturated ω-6 fatty acid. It is composed of 20-carbon chain fatty acid. ARA is found in fish, eggs, poultry and sea food. It is present abundantly in phospholipids of cell membranes.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Arachidonic acid (ARA) governs the cell membrane fluidity and ion channels activity. Accumulation of free ARA leads to cytotoxicity followed by cell death.
