General description

18:0-18:1 PG (1-stearoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol)) is a phospholipid which carries a small head group. It is made of two 18 carbon chains with phosphoglycerol backbone.

Application

18:0-18:1 PG (1-stearoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol)) has been used as a standard to analyze total lipid extracts by thin-layer chromatography (TLC). It may be used to measure the T-cell responses to lipid antigens using CD1 antigen-presenting molecule (CD1b) tetramers and in liposomes preparation.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) participates in photosynthetic electron transport.

With phosphate deficiency, the role of phosphatidylglycerol is compensated by increased glycolipid content in thylakoid membrane biogenesis but not photosynthetic electron transport in Arabidopsis chloroplasts. In plants and cyanobacteria, anionic phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is the only major phospholipid in thylakoid membranes

Yeast tolerates a low pH and high solvent concentrations. The permeability of the plasma membrane (PM) for small molecules is low and lateral diffusion of proteins is slow. These findings suggest a high degree of lipid order, which raises the

T cells autoreactive to the antigen-presenting molecule CD1a are common in human blood and skin, but the search for natural autoantigens has been confounded by background T cell responses to CD1 proteins and self lipids. After capturing CD1a-lipid complexes, we
