General description

GPC rapidly delivers choline to the brain across the blood–brain barrier and is a biosynthetic precursor of the acetylcholine neurotransmitter.
Glycerophosphocholine (GPC), is a water-soluble deacylated phosphatidylcholine derivative. It is majorly generated from choline based phospholipids associated with membranes. GPC is widely distributed in human blood and saliva. L-α-glycerophosphoryl(choline-d9) (GPC-d9) is the deuterium-labeled form of GPC.

Application

GPC-d9 has been used as an internal standard in ultra-performance liquid chromatograph coupled to a SCIEX 4500QT mass spectrometer (UPLC-MS/MS) for the quantification of choline compounds from whole milk samples.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Glycerophosphocholine (GPC) protects mitochondrial respiratory complex I during oxidative stress associated with liver ischemia-reperfusion. GPC is an ergogenic supplement that improves muscle force production. The deuterium-labeled glycerophosphocholine is employed as an internal standard for human milk choline quantification using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.
