Application

Chitosan offers remarkable biological properties, it has been widely used in drug delivery and tissue engineering applications. Chitosan derivatives have unique properties including biocompatibility, mucoadhesion, non-toxicity, and capability to form gels. Furthermore, they are suitable candidates to manufacture films, tablets, and nanotechnology-based systems which have the possibility for commercial production as well as industrial scale-up. Chemical modification of CS chains using the carboxymethyl moieties will alter the water solubility due to the carboxymethylation degree. The carboxymethyl chitosan derivatives can also interact with cells for applications in cell growth, tissue regeneration, and wound healing.
