General description

Sinensetin is a polymethoxylated flavonoid derived from plants. It is mainly seen in Orthosiphon aristatus var. aristatus and various citrus fruits. Sinensetin is abundantly present in the peel than in other parts of the citrus fruits.

Application

Sinensetin may be used as a citrus flavonoid to study its anti-adipogenic effects on AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation in palmitate (PA)-treated HepG2 cells. It may also be used as a standard to quantify polyphenol content in Orthosiphon stamineus extracts using ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Sinensetin is a citrus flavonoid with anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activity. It has also been shown to enhance adipogenesis and lipolysis. It exhibits anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-dementia, antioxidant, anti-obesity, anti-trypanosomal, and vasorelaxant activities. It is capable of inhibiting P-glycoprotein (P-gp), efflux transporter, and breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP). Sinensetin has the potential to serve as a flavonoid chemosensitizer.

Sinensetin is a rare polymethoxylated flavone (PMF) found in certain citrus fruits. In this study, we investigated the effects of sinensetin on lipid metabolism in 3T3-L1 cells. Sinensetin promoted adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes growing in incomplete differentiation medium, which did
