2,5-Dihydroxybenzoic acid is an ionic liquid matrix used for the analysis of biomolecules using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization combined with mass spectrometry.
Most commonly used matrix for carbohydrates. For MALDI-MS of free neutral glycans. Produces [M+Na]+ ion; may show a weaker [M+K]+ ion. Other species may be generated by the addition of the appropriate inorganic salt.
