General description

Sodium hydroxide is widely used in numerous industrial processes, including the manufacture of pulp and paper, soaps and detergents, textiles and drinking water. It is also used in the preparation of dyes, bleaches and drugs.

Application

Sodium hydroxide may be used:
  • As an extraction solvent in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in combination with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) (HPLC ICP-MS) speciation of selenium in enriched onion leaves.
  • As an analytical reagent in HPLC and HPLC coupled electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-MS/MS) determination of flavonoids and stilbenes in red wine and related biological products.
