General description

TopFluor is dipyrrometheneboron difluoride undecanoic acid. It is used for labeling lipids. Fluorescent lipids are widely used in live imaging in cell culture and animal models. TopFluor is a green variant of BODIPY (a fluorescent tag for lipids). TopFluor has two additional methyl groups compared to boron-dipyrromethene (BODIPY) and carbon 1 of its central ring is bonded to the lipid conjugate. It forms a T-shaped molecule in contrast to the linear molecule formed by BODIPY FL- fatty acids FAs).
