Gene Information

human ... ITGB1(3688)

General description

Cluster of differentiation 29 (CD29), also known as integrin subunit β 1 (ITGB1), is a mechanosensor, encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 10p11.22. It is present in both normal cells and tumor-associated cells. The encoded protein has ubiquitous expression with a molecular mass of 130kDa.
The antibody MEM-101A reacts with CD29 (integrin beta1 chain), a 130 kDa single chain type I glycoprotein expressed as a heterodimer (non-covalently associated with the integrin alpha subunits 1-6). CD29 is broadly expressed on majority of hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells (leukocytes, platelets, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, epithelial cells and mast cells).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cluster of differentiation 29 (CD29) acts as an adhesive molecule in the development of de novo focal contact, keratinocyte migration and re-epithelialization of wound tissue. CD29 with/without CD27 induce apoptosis, in association with a multifunctional protein galectin (Gal)-3.

SHARPIN (Shank-Associated RH Domain-Interacting Protein) is a component of the linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex (LUBAC), which enhances TNF-induced NF-κB activity. SHARPIN-deficient (Sharpincpdm/cpdm) mice display multi-organ inflammation and chronic proliferative dermatitis (cpdm) due to TNF-induced keratinocyte apoptosis. In cells, SHARPIN
