General description
C8-ceramide or N-octanoyl-D-erythro-sphingosine (C17 base) is a synthetic cell-permeable sphingolipid. It is a combination of C17 analog of sphingosine and octanoic acid. Ceramides are the major lipid component in the outermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. C8 Ceramide plays a vital role in inducing apoptotic cell death.
Application
C8 Ceramide (d17:1/8:0) has been used to induce myriocin-treated malignant melanoma cells to increase endogenous ceramide levels.

Melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer, and it resists chemotherapy. Candidate drugs for effective anti-cancer treatment have been sought from natural resources. Here, we have investigated anti-proliferative activity of myriocin, serine palmitoyltransferase inhibitor, in the de novo

Recent studies have demonstrated that ovarian follicle atresia occurs extensively before follicle selection into the avian preovulatory hierarchy, and that this process is mediated via granulosa cell apoptosis. Subsequent to follicle selection, granulosa cells are inherently resistant to apoptosis, and
