General description

The inlet seal on an Agilent GC must be regularly changed to prevent sample adsorption due to accumulation of sample residue and/or septum fragments. Supelco manufactures replacement inlet seals using a high quality stainless steel plated with pure gold to insure inertness. No brighteners are used in the plating process. This straight design seal is suitable for applications with low split flows (<200 mL/min.). Each pack includes one washer for each seal.

Application

Gold-plated inlet seal may be used in the GC injection port for thermal desorption-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (TD-GC/MS), where residual accumulation was noticed resulting in analyte adsorption and elevating signal background. Hence, replacing the gold-plated seal in regular intervals decreased the interference.

Pistachios contain approximately 45% fat, which can result in a significant amount of coextracted matrix in the acetonitrile extract generated using the QuEChERS procedure. A zirconia based adsorbent significantly reduces coextracted matrix prior to LC-MS or GC-MS.

A procedure for cleanup of green tea extracts provides low background and allowed for the analysis of more pesticides at lower levels than QuEChERS. Uses less solvents and no toluene.

The odor and pungency of ginger is due to the presence of terpenes, gingerols and shogaols. These compounds contribute to the highly complex matrix of ginger, which subsequently presents a challenge in low level analyses of contaminants. A novel 2-layer SPE cartridge efficiently reduces background for pesticide determination.
