General description

Murexide is the ammonium salt of purpuric acid that appears as a slightly reddish-purple powder and is soluble in water. It is mainly used as an indicator for complexometric titrations to measure water hardness and as a colorant/pigment in the dye industry.

Application

Murexide is used for the histochemical staining of calcium in the skeleton. It is suitable for staining the hemijaws for dental caries scoring.

An insulin hexamer containing one B10-bound Co(III) ion and one unoccupied B10 site has been synthesized. The properties of the monosubstituted hexamer show that occupancy of only one B10 site by Co3+ is sufficient to stabilize the hexameric form under

Two new Ca indicators, purpurate-3,3'diacetic acid (PDAA) and 1,1'-dimethylpurpurate-3,3'diacetic acid (DMPDAA), were synthesized and used to measure Ca transients in frog cut muscle fibers. These indicators are analogues of the purpurate components of murexide and tetramethylmurexide, in which two acetate

Histatins are small histidine-rich salivary polypeptides which exhibit antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans. This antimicrobial activity has been ascribed in part to a high content of basic amino acids. However, unlike most other antimicrobial proteins histatins have a high content

One aim of this article was to determine the resting concentration of free Ca(2+) in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) of frog cut skeletal muscle fibers ([Ca(2+)](SR,R)) using the calcium absorbance indicator dye tetramethylmurexide (TMX). Another was to determine the ratio

The Ca indicator tetramethylmurexide was introduced into cut fibers, mounted in a double-Vaseline-gap chamber, by diffusion from the end-pool solutions. The indicator diffused rapidly to the central region of a fiber where optical recording was done and, if removed, diffused
