General description

Poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) is a polythiophene-based low bandgap semiconducting polymer. It is widely used as anelectron donor material in organic solar cells, OLEDs, and OFETs due to itschemical and thermal stability, controlled synthetic method, goodsemiconducting properties, simple structure, and widecommercial availability. The degree of regioregularity of P3HT has a stronginfluence on its ability to form highly ordered domains.

Application

Poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) can be used as a:

  • Active semiconductor to prepare organic field emission transistors. In regioregular P3HT the microcrystalline domains are well constructed by phase-segregated layers of insulating alkali side chains and pi-pi interchain stacking. This leads to high charge mobility and enhances the performance of OFETs.
  • Precursor to synthesize P3HT-PCBM( [6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester) blend thin film. The highcrystallinity of P3HT thin film increases the efficiency of organicphotovoltaic cells.

This report focuses on the synthesis of novel 2,3,4,5-tetrathienylthiophene-co-poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (TTT-co-P3HT) as a donor material for organic solar cells (OSCs). The properties of the synthesized TTT-co-P3HT were compared with those of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl (P3HT). The structure of TTT-co-P3HT was studied using nuclear
