General description
Aflatoxins are a group of hypertoxic bisdihydrofurano secondary metabolites produced by fungi of the genus Aspergillus, mostly A. flavus, A. Parasiticus, and A. nomius. Aflatoxin M1 is formed upon hydroxylation of one of the major aflatoxins B1 in the milk of dairy animals by the enzyme cytochrome P-450 enzyme.
Application
- Aflatoxin M1 analysis of 230 samples of different milk types for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) based screening followed by confirmation using high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorescence detection (HPLC-FID)
- Quantification of aflatoxin M1 in 3198 samples of raw cow milk by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
