General description

N-Tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl-3-aminopropanesulfonic acid (TAPS) is a zwitterionic ionic buffer that is widely used in capillary electrophoresis. As one of the key biological buffers, it maintains the required pH of the medium and exhibits various properties such as high water soluble, highly inert, and stable nature and extremely low absorbance of ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) light. TAPS buffer also aids in stabilizing lysozyme against thermal denaturation. It is widely used in biology and biochemistry.

Application

TAPS sodium salt has been used along with filtered natural sea water (FSW) to stain live or fixed embryos.
